The SW Healthcare CoDE begins first experiments on AI scribe technology for primary care
The Centre of Digital Excellence (CoDE), a groundbreaking initiative in healthcare innovation, has officially opened its doors in a collaboration between NHS England South West Region and the University of the West of England (UWE). This state-of-the-art facility, located in Bristol, is set to revolutionise the integration of cutting-edge technologies into healthcare.
The CoDE brings a wealth of academic, clinical and research expertise to drive forward improvements in efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare. The CoDE will first focus on the utility of AI scribe technology, or ambient voice technology (AVT).
This initiative underscores the CoDE’s commitment to leveraging technology to tackle real-world challenges in healthcare, paving the way for a more efficient and patient-centred NHS.
Clinical and Academic Research
At CoDE, researchers and healthcare professionals will rigorously test the AI technology to ensure its accuracy, reliability, and compliance with clinical and information governance requirements as well as addressing challenges such as data security, ethical considerations, and integration into existing healthcare workflows.
The goal is to better understand the application of these technologies and develop a set of standards to guide healthcare professionals when considering the adoption of AI technologies into their practice.
This transformative technology will be trialled for its potential to revolutionise healthcare consultations
From Simulation to Implementation
The CoDE serves as a physical laboratory workspace, designed to test and refine novel technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Its mission is to enhance patient care, streamline healthcare processes, and address the growing demand for efficient and effective health and care solutions. By fostering collaboration between healthcare professionals, researchers, and technology developers, the CoDE aims to bridge the gap between innovation and practical implementation.
